Today starts a new challenge over at World Wide Open Design Team Challenge and as always it's Anything Goes. Our wonderful sponsor is the talented Julia Spiri and for my card I am showcasing Fantasy Hat.
I absolutely love this image. I have wanted to do more with the steampunk style and this was my first go at it.
To make this A2 size card you will need:
Black Card Stock- This will be your card base and should be 4.25"x 11". Score your card at 5.5" and fold. Remember, turn your card over to fold~ the paper fibers will already be broken and you will have a smoother fold.
Extra Smooth White Card Stock- This is you stamping layer. Cut it to 4" x 5.25".
Clock Stamp by Heartfelt Creations- Now let's make it glow! Embossing is pretty simple if you take your time. Rub the stamping area with some type of rosin to remove any static. (Tip- a used dryer sheet works too.) VersaMark is used just like ink, except it's kind of gooey or greasy. (You can get this in any craft store.) Remember, VersMark is clear but you should be able to see the impression. Now, repeat this step with the dragonfly. Put the lid back on the Versamark as soon as your done- everything sticks to it!
Here's where the magic starts- I used gold embossing powder, but you could use any color you want. Using a small spoon and a tray, cover the images with your embossing powder completely- you can tap off an excess, just make sure your images are completely covered. (Tip- keep a stiff paint brush to gently brush off any powder that doesn't stick to the image.) Pour any unused powder back into the jar and close the lid. If it spills, it will make a heck of mess.
Preheat your heat gun- be careful!! It will get super hot, melting and burning anything in its way including you!! Once your heat gun is ready, carefully heat up the powdered images. Be sure to move your gun evenly over your paper- some warping will occur- this DOES NOT ruin your finished card. You will start to see the image change and the embossing powder will start to melt and set leaving you with a beautifully smooth and golden image. Once all of the powder has melted, let it set and cool off for a minute and admire! (If you've never embossed before- practice, practice, practice!)
Lots of metal clocks from Paper Studio were added for extra flair and bling.
Just build your card layers and wallah!!
